The many hats of a Pharmacist

For many when they think of a Pharmacist they instantly think of a Pharmacy. This is what we call a Community Pharmacist. The Community Pharmacist is a great resource for patients in the community. They are often easily accessible and great to ask questions or advice on subjects. This is only one of many places you can find a Pharmacist.

Other types of Pharmacists include (but are not limited to) are:

• Long Term Care Pharmacists

• Hospital Pharmacists

• Consultant Pharmacists

• Industry Pharmacists

• Clinical Pharmacists

I am a Clinical Pharmacist and plan to focus on this area of Pharmacy for now. I am what we refer to as an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist, which means I work within a doctors office. You can find Ambulatory Care Pharmacists in Family Practice Clinics, Geriatrics, Cardiology, Pediatrics, Endocrinology, Neurology, Rheumatology and Nephrology.

Clinical Pharmacists work as part of a team. The team consists of the Provider (Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Physicians Assistant), a social worker and a care manager. Clinical Pharmacists help optimize medication therapy and regimens using evidenced based care using clinical studies and Clinical Guidelines to help manage care.
