As a mother, we balance time at work, time with our family, and time for one's self.
Ensuring time for ourself is often, at least for me, the one thing that I struggle to prioritize. A lot of times we are so focused on others that we often forget about ourselves. It is so easy to do! It is important to make sure to take care of yourself too.
Be sure to take time to take care of your own health by doing activities such as...
meditation
exercise
hobbies.
Work/life balance may not be the same for everyone.
Time, because it is limited often tells where our priorities or demands my be. Everyone's lives are different and we are all struggling with different things. Some may not feel that they have a choice on their balance at this time and are striving for a better balance in the future. It is important for us Moms to not judge one another but instead be a support. Being a Mom is hard and the Mommy Guilt is real.
Work/life balance may also be reflective of desire and passion. Some may prefer to work outside the home and some may prefer to work from home. What is your balance? Or perfect ratio?
As I have gone through stages as a working Mom and Pharmacist, my balance shifts. I am a mother of four. I have one that just graduated from college and was recently married, one that is still in college, one in high school and one in middle school. When my children were younger my balance was different than when they have gotten older. My children as they have gotten older, have entered into different activities that involve a different amount of commitment and support from me.
As your children get older, it is also beneficial to recruit them to help in your work/life balance. Children are observers and often want to help. So let them...
Ways to let your younger children help...
give them chores (get them involved in yard work and household cleaning)
feed the animals
Ways to let your older children help...
Let them cook dinner one day of the week
Let them help run errands.
For me regardless of the stage of life I or my children have been, it has been vital to find things that free up time. Time saving tools may include...working closer to home or from home, carpools for children's activities... Finding ways to stretch your time...be organized...find cleaning hacks...
The most important thing I do to help with organization...
utilize calendars and alarms on my phone
take time Sunday evening to plan my week out
Some of my favorite cleaning hacks that work...
use a squeegee to wipe the shower down after each use
use fridge liners
Having a good Mom group of friends or work colleagues to exchange ideas is always helpful.
